The International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry , abbreviated IVS , is a scientific data service for geodesy and astrometry for the coordinated use of Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). It was founded in 1999 and primarily provides source and measurement data from suitable extragalactic radio sources ( quasars ). Other tasks include a. the organization of international measurement campaigns or sessions for the high-precision location of radio telescopes and fundamental stations , testing and comparisons of various VLBI software and the development of recommendations for inexpensive observation and evaluation methods.

The organization is integrated into the International Union for Geodesy and Geophysics as well as the International Astronomical Union and International Organization of Scientific Geodesy . Its structure is similar to the GPS data service International GNSS Service and maintains permanent databases and regular conferences. Several dozen institutions are closely involved in the cooperation. The current chairman is Axel Nothnagel (University of Bonn).
