The International Wrestling Association (Japan) , IWA Japan for short , is a Japanese wrestling promotion that has existed since 1994. IWA Japan is also used
as an alternative abbreviation .

history

IWA Japan was founded by Victor Quiñones . The main sponsor at the time was the Japanese hotel owner Tatsukuni "Kinroku" Asano.

The IWA Japan became internationally known with the organization of a wrestling tournament that was held on August 20, 1995 in the Kawasaki baseball stadium and was officially named "Kawasaki Dream" . Unofficially, however, the event was called the "King of the Death Match Tournament" and went down in wrestling history with this name. With this tournament the modern hardcore wrestling was founded. In addition to local wrestlers from leagues like the FMW and Big Japan , US wrestling greats in particular competed here . The final match was Mick Foley and Terry Funkdisputed and won by Foley. But the former NWA champion Dan Severn defended in this tournament his title successfully against Tarzan Goto .

In 1996 the cooperation between IWA Japan and the NWA was ended.
