International Astronomy Olympiad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Astronomy Olympiad ( IAO ) is an international competition for groups of schoolchildren, in which theoretical or practical work from astronomy is presented and the best are awarded by a jury of experts. The ILO should not be confused with the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad (IOAA), which split off from the ILO in 2007 and has been held annually since then.

The Astronomy Olympiad has been organized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) at intervals of 2 to 3 years since the 1990s .

Participants can be between 15 and 20 years old and form groups of a maximum of 5 students. 1 or 2 specialist astronomers can act as team leaders.
