International Publishers Union

The Union Internationale des Éditeurs (UIE), English International Publishers Association (IPA), German Internationale Verleger-Union was founded in Paris in 1896 to represent the interests of book, music and magazine publishers. In particular, she advocates the protection of authors' and copyrights as well as freedom of the press.

The umbrella organization, which unites 76 national, regional or specialized publishing associations from 65 countries, is a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations .

Until 1962 the seat of the organization was in Zurich , today's seat is in Geneva .

Since 2005, the UIE has been awarding the Freedom to Publish Prize to people who have made outstanding contributions to the freedom of the written word. In 2016 the prize was renamed Prix ​​Voltaire .
