The Pretulalpe (main summit Pretul , 1656  m above sea level ) is a mountain range in the Fischbacher Alps in Styria ( Austria ).

Location and landscape

The Pretulalpe lies between Mürzzuschlag in the north and Rettenegg in the south.

The name comes from the Slavic prědělъ 'Grenz, Scheide' and (unclear origin) Alpe 'Berg', so it simply means 'Grenzberg'.

Development

The Peter-Bergner-Warte , a lookout tower, stands on the summit of the Pretul . This Peter Bergner was the first hut warden at the Roseggerhaus . He came from Metnitz in Carinthia and was murdered in this hut on June 24, 1904.

The Pretulalpe can be reached in a few minutes from the Roseggerhaus in the southwest and offers an almost unobstructed view of Veitsch , Ötscher , Schneealpe , Rax and Schneeberg from west to north and the Hochwechsel in the east. The panorama from the 10 meters higher Amundsenhöhe one kilometer further west is even more extensive. The Central Alpine Trail (Austrian long-distance hiking trail 02), which connects the Stuhleck in the northeast with the Alpl in the southwest, leads over the long grass ridge of the Pretul .

Between Geiereck  ( 1644  m above sea level ) and Oberem Moschkogel  ( 1570  m above sea level ) towards Mürzzuschlag and Ganz, in the Geiereckalm area, the Pretulalpe wind farm extends on 14 wind turbines with a hub height of 78 m and a rotor diameter of 82 m with an output of 42 MW each delivers a total annual output of 84 gigawatt hours.

The Pretul is also a very good observation site for astronomers due to its deep and free southern horizon.
