International Sugar Organization

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Sugar Organization ( International Sugar Organization , ISO) is an international organization based in London . It was established by the International Sugar Agreement of March 20, 1992.

Unlike its predecessor organizations before 1968, it does not have the authority to regulate international trade in sugar by setting prices or export quotas. Its only purpose is to promote the trade and consumption of sugar by collecting and publishing information on the sugar market and researching new uses for sugar and related products. The International Sugar Organization is also intended to serve as a forum for intergovernmental discussions on sugar. Seminars are also held at the London headquarters for this purpose.

A price list with the daily average retail price for sugar in US dollars is also published.

Members are the European Union and 59 states (as of April 2012). The current executive director of the organization is the German Peter Baron , a former employee of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture .
