The International Anti-Diet Day (English International No Diet Day - INDD abbreviated) is an unofficial international day of action. It was started by the British author and feminist Mary Evans Young and takes place annually on May 6th .

The origins of this day of action go back to 1992. Mary Evans Young, who was cured of anorexia , founded the anti-dieting campaign Diet Breakers . She received media attention after she campaigned in talk shows and TV interviews for the acceptance of her own body and against the obsession with slimness. Young cited her own fate as the motivation, as well as media reports of stomach reductions and possible complications, as well as reports of teenage girls who committed suicide "because they couldn't stand being fat." There are reports of the initiative and sympathizers meanwhile in many countries around the world.

According to the initiators, the goals of the Anti-Diet Day include:

  • appreciation of the variety of natural differences in size and weight
  • the critical questioning of ideals of beauty
  • Actions against discrimination against the overweight and obese
  • Educational work on the health hazards of diets and the inefficiency of commercial diets and diet products
  • showing a link between diets and violence against women
  • Commemoration of the victims of bariatric surgery
