The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS from the English International Institute of Administrative Sciences ) is the international scientific organization for administrative science .
The IIAS deals with all questions of contemporary public administration at national and international level and offers administrators and practitioners a forum for comparative studies.
Every year the IIAS organizes three conferences in three different countries and publishes four issues of the journal International Review of Administrative Sciences in English , French and Mandarin . The institute also publishes books and electronic journals.
The IIAS is also responsible for coordinating around ninety member states and national sections.
Subgroups
The institute is divided into four subgroups that organize their own activities in their themes and regions:
- The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) is an association of organizations and individuals dedicated to training for public administration.
- The European Group for Public Administration (EGPA), the regional group for Europe.
- The Latin American Group for Public Administration (LAGPA), the regional group for Latin America
- The Asian Group for Public Administration (AGPA), the regional group for Asia.
Members
The IIAS distinguishes between four categories of members:
- Member states
- International organizations under international law in which member states of the IIAS are members
- National sections established by appropriately qualified people
- institutional members, i.e. institutions and associations in the field of public administration at international, national and sub-national level.
Organizational structure
The main organs of the institute are the board of directors, the general assembly and the secretariat. The complex organizational structure of the institute led to the establishment of a working group on structural reform in 2018.
Board of Directors
The administrative board controls the business of the institute, decides on the institute's activities on the basis of the proposals of the program and research advisory board and draws up the annual budget. The Board of Directors consists of delegates from the member states, the national sections and the international organizations that are members of the IIAS.
The chairman of the board of directors is also the chairman of the IIAS.
General Assembly
The general assembly decides on the general guidelines of the institute. It confirms the budget, relieving the Board based on the audit reports of the appointed by it auditors .
office
The secretariat, based in Brussels, handles the day-to-day business of the institute with full-time employees. The secretariat is headed by a director general.
German section of the International Institute for Administrative Sciences
The German section is the national section of the IIAS in Germany . It is organized as an association based in Berlin and Bonn. The association is financed by grants from the federal and state governments. The office is at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs . The association currently has more than 400 administrative scientists and practitioners as members and aims to "pass on experience and knowledge of domestic and foreign administrative science and practice to administrative scientists from all over the world - in Germany, Europe and beyond the borders of Europe."
Among other things, the German Section organizes a regular annual meeting.
