Blacksmithing had a tradition in the Link family since 1731. In 1930 times were bad, but Wilhelm Link took over the Tieringer village smithy. Despite the effects of the global economic crisis, business was good until after the Second World War the farrier was less and less in demand. And so Wilhelm Link and his son and successor Werner Link made a decision of great importance: In 1960 they began to build underframes for sewing machines. Since the numerous seamstresses had to sit at work, a lack of supply became a business idea. They supplemented the range with chairs and thereby demonstrated a real pioneering spirit. The “Interstuhl” brand was only introduced a few years later, in 1967. With the first major plant expansion, Interstuhl moved to its current location in Brühlstrasse in 1969 and set up the first powder coating plant there. Interstuhl began to develop office swivel chairs, and new construction phases expanded production. Today Interstuhl is one of the leading office chair manufacturers in Europe and is managed in the third generation by Helmut and Joachim Link. Interstuhl sells its chairs worldwide through branches and specialist trade partners.

In the past few years Interstuhl has invested around 20 million euros in the Tieringen location and is now the third largest employer in the Zollernalb district.
