Ioannis Theodoropoulos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ioannis Theodoropoulos ( Greek Ιωάννης Θεοδωρόπουλος ; * unknown; † unknown) was a Greek athlete who was active in the late 19th century. He came from Evrytania .

Theodoropoulos, together with his compatriots Evangelos Damaskos and Vasilios Xydas and the two Americans William Hoyt and Albert Tyler, formed the field of only five participants in the pole vault at the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 .

After all three Greeks had mastered the initial height of 2.40 m, Theodoropoulos, like Damascos, crossed the second height of 2.60 m. At the next height of 2.80 m (at which Hoyt and Tyler only started the competition) the two Greeks failed and then shared third place. Their inferiority to the Americans was clear: Hoyt won with 3.30 m, and Tyler jumped 3.20 m in second place.

Further achievements by Ioannis Theodoropoulos are not documented.
