Irena Milovan

Irena Milovan (born January 5, 1937 in Zagreb , Yugoslavia , † July 16, 2020 in Madrid , Spain ) was a Yugoslav ballet dancer .

Life

At the age of 10, Milovan entered the State Ballet School, where she was taught by Margarita Froman , among others . From 1954 she danced with the Croatian National Ballet directed by Froman. From 1959 to 1966 she lived in Chile, where she was prima ballerina at the Municipal Theater of Santiago de Chile and also worked as a ballet teacher. She married the Chilean ballet dancer Octavio Cintolesi (1924–1999). In 1963 she danced at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in Cinderella in the choreography of Waclaw Orlikowsky . From 1965 to 1973 she was prima ballerina at the Zurich Opera House , then at the Bonn Theater , where her husband was the ballet director.

She later taught ballet at numerous opera houses, including from 1977 to 1986 at the Opéra National de Lyon . From 1990 to 2010 she taught at the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid. Irena Milovan died in a hospital in Madrid at the age of 83 from complications from cancer.
