Irvine Lake (formerly Santiago reservoir is called) too Irvine associated Reservoir in Orange County , south of Los Angeles in the United States . The Santiago Creek, a left tributary of the Santa Ana River, is dammed . The lake is located in the northeast of Irvine near the Irvine Regional Park , on the northeast side of the lake begins the Cleveland National Forest . After the construction of the dam at the northern end (1929-1931), the lake was filled with water in 1931, then various species of fish (including catfish and largemouth bass ) were released and in 1941 the lake was opened to the public. Today the lake is used to supply water to the surrounding area, but mainly as a recreational area popular with anglers .
