Isaac Ikhouria

Isaac Ikhouria (born October 9, 1947 ) is a retired Nigerian boxer . Ikouria was a bronze medalist at the 1972 Olympic Games and the 1974 Commonwealth Games and winner of the 1973 African Games .

Career

In 1970 Ikhouria started at the Commonwealth Games , but was eliminated in the middleweight division (-75 kg) starting in the first fight against Robert Murphy, Australia .

At the 1972 Olympic Games , Ikouria reached the light heavyweight division (-81 kg), after victories over Anton Schär, Switzerland (3: 2), Valdemar Paulino Oliveira, Brazil (5: 0), and Nikolay Anfimov, Soviet Union (3: 2), the semifinals, which he lost against Gilberto Carrillo , Cuba (5-0), and thus won the Olympic bronze medal.

In 1973 Ikouria won the African Games and the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games the following year. In 1974 he also won the African championships.

Ikouria later coached the Nigerian national team.
