Isaac ben Eleazar ha-Levi
Isaac ben Eleazar ha-Levi († between 1070 and 1090; also: Segan Levijah , he was also known as " Gaon ") was the head of the yeshiva in Worms .
He received his training at the yeshiva in Mainz . His teacher there was Eliezer ben Isaak .
In Worms he was one of the teachers of the Rashi of Troyes. He often quoted him later in his works, today the authoritative source to infer the work of Isaac ben Eleazar as a commentator on the Halacha . After the latter had left Worms, Isaac ben Eleazar and Rashi remained in contact and exchanged letters. Isaac ben Eleazar dealt with the liturgy of worship and its renewal (Rhenish rite of Ashkenazi Judaism), as well as the exegesis of the Torah . Four piyyutim for the wedding celebration are also handed down from him.
Isaac ben Eleazar was married. His wife was named Channa . They had a daughter, Bella, and four sons, Ascher, Eliezer, Jakob and Samuel. While Isaac ben Eleazar died before the pogrom of 1096 , his widow and three of his sons were murdered in the pogrom.
