Isabel Allende (politician)
Isabel Allende (also Isabel Allende Bussi , born January 18, 1945 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean politician and member of the Partido Socialista .
She is the daughter of Salvador Allende , the former president of Chile . After the death of her father in the military coup of 1973 , she fled together with her mother Hortensia Bussi and her two sisters, first to Cuba and then to Mexico . After 16 years in exile, she returned to Chile in 1989 towards the end of Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship .
Allende was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Chilean National Congress from 1994 to 2010 . From 2003 to 2004 she was President of the Chamber of Deputies. Allende has been a Senator for the Región de Atacama since 2010 . On March 11, 2014, she was elected President of the Senate by March 2015 with 58 to 57 votes. From 2008 she was deputy chairwoman of the Socialist Party, since May 2015 she has been chairwoman of the party.
