Isenberger Vogteirollen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Isenburger Vogteirollen are two fiefdoms from the 13th century. They contain the goods over which Friedrich von Isenberg had the rights as Vogt . Many farms and localities in what is now North Rhine-Westphalia can be traced back to an early documentary mention on these registers.

The "Little Vogteirolle" is the older one, it dates from before 1220. The "Große Vogteirolle" dates from 1221. The background was the dispute with Engelbert I of Cologne , Archbishop of Cologne , in particular about the Vogteireche at Essen Abbey . The role indicates the purpose in the preamble : "So that no one could do injustice to the count or his heirs, he had this written down." Both roles are structured according to the court associations (villications) of the Essen and Werden monasteries, via the bailiwick rights and name the localities with the corresponding number of farms.

The small and large bailiwicks were discovered in the original in 1952 in the Princely Archive of Rheda during clean-up work by the retired Reich Archives Councilor Moritz Graf zu Bentheim. The large roll is about 1.70 m long and about 28 cm wide.

The archive office of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association in Münster has a copy of the small roll.
