Teoman Mehmet Öztürk (born December 5, 1967 in Berlin ) is a former German basketball player of Turkish descent. The German national basketball team won with 2.08 meters tall players in the position of the center in 1993 the European title .

biography

Öztürk was a rower in his youth and began his basketball career late at the age of 20 at TuS Lichterfelde . A year later he was signed by Alba Berlin and made his debut in the German national team. As a result, Öztürk became one of the first players of Turkish origin to wear the jersey with the national coat of arms of Germany in basketball .

Öztürk had a successful career. In 1993 he became European champion with the German team . Two years later he won the Korać Cup with ALBA Berlin . In 1997 he won both the German championship and the cup with ALBA .

At the age of 30, Öztürk went to Turkey and joined the basketball department of Galatasaray Istanbul in 1997 . Two years later he moved to city rivals Fenerbahçe Ülkerspor and returned to Alba Berlin in 2000 after a one-year interlude. There Öztürk became champion in 2001 and won the double again in 2002 . In the autumn of his career he returned to TuS Lichterfelde, where he was a team-mate of the later Olympic participant Philip Zwiener .

Öztürk is married. His daughter Sonnele Öztürk is a swimmer and member of the DSV team. In 2009 he finished his studies as a primary school teacher at the University of Potsdam , where he also acted as a lecturer. Öztürk is a teacher at a school in Dallgow-Döberitz .
