Sonnele Öztürk (born March 17, 1998 in Berlin ) is a German swimming athlete . In 2013 she was European youth champion over 200 meters back and in 2017 she was runner-up at the German championships over this distance.

Life

The daughter of the former professional basketball player Teoman Öztürk was born in Berlin and trained during her childhood and until 2009 with Wasserfreunde Spandau 04, where she also celebrated her first sporting successes. From 2010 to 2013, Sonnele moved to the Potsdam swimming club and trained with Marko Letz at the Olympic base in Potsdam. In connection with a change of school and trainer in 2013, Sonnele switched back to Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 . She trained for a year under Harald Gampe at the Berlin Olympic Training Center. After half a year under the new Berlin head coach Miro Zeravica, Sonnele moved back to the Olympic base in Potsdam in 2015. Since then she has been training there with Olympic athlete Christian Diener under Jörg Hoffmann . In 2016, she completed her school career with the Abitur at the Potsdam Sports School.

successes

Sonnele Öztürk already became Berlin champion in 2009 at the age of 11 over her parade route, the 200 meters back. Sonnele had her first international sporting success in 2011 at the EYOF (European Youth Olympic Festival), where she took 2nd place over 200 meters back.

In 2013 she celebrated her greatest sporting success to date with 1st place over 200 meters back at the European Youth Championships in Poznan . In the same year she qualified for the European Short Course Championships in Herning ( Denmark ) and took 5th place there.

At the European Championships 2014 in Berlin, Sonnele took 9th place over 200 meters back.

In 2016, Sonnele completed her first open water competition in Hamburg . Over 5 km, she was seventh in the open classification.

At the German Championships 2017, Sonnele secured 2nd place over 200 meters back at the same time as Jenny Mensing , behind Lisa Graf .

Sonnele is a multiple German year-old champion and holds the age class records over the 200 meters back for the 13, 14, 15, 17 and 19 year olds.
