Ishida Hakyō

Ishida Hakyō ( Japanese 石田 波 郷 , real name: Ishida Tetsuo ( 石田 哲 大 ); born March 18, 1913 in Habu, Onsen-gun (today: Nishihabu, Matsuyama ); † November 21, 1969 ) was a Japanese poet.

Ishida was a student of the haiku poet Mizuhara Shūōshi . He was a member of the group around the literary magazine Ashibi before founding his own magazine. During the Second World War he contracted a lung condition that affected his health for the rest of his life. In 1950 his main work, the collection of poems Sha-kumyō , appeared, which identified him as an important poet of his generation.
