Isidoro Álvarez (* 1935 in Borondes , Grado , † September 14, 2014 in Majadahonda ) was a Spanish commercial entrepreneur. For many years he was president of the largest European department store chain El Corte Inglés .

Life

Isidoro Álvarez studied economics and business administration at the Complutense University of Madrid , graduating with honors in 1957. At the age of 23 he took on his first managerial positions in the family company. In 1959 he became a member of the board of directors, in 1966 he became vice president of the group and CEO of one of the group's companies. After the death of the company's founder, Ramón Areces Rodríguez, who was his great-uncle, Isidoro Álvarez was appointed President of the group in 1989, which he led for 25 years until his death at the age of 79 in September 2014. He received several awards.
