Isla Martín Pérez is now an uninhabited island in El Salvador , it is located around two kilometers south of Isla Zacatillo in the Gulf of Fonseca .

The island belongs administratively to the military administration of the Fuerza Armada de El Salvador and has an area of ​​around 0.6 km². The island was inhabited until the late 1980s. The 15 or so residents worked in the fishing industry. Today the abandoned and dilapidated buildings are still on the island. To enter the island, the express consent of the commander of the La Union naval base is required. The duration of the crossing from the port of La Union is around 40 minutes by motorboat.

Today the island is primarily a protected area ( protección verde ) for pelicans , raccoons , iguanas and armadillos . The small island with diverse vegetation is protected by members of the armed forces.
