Teaching

In continuation of the considerations of his academic teacher Thomas Pröpper, Tomberg examines the practice of freedom in its relevance for the self-understanding of the Christian exercise of faith. At first he was interested in Ernst Cassirer 's symbolic self-fulfillment of freedom in culture and society, before he developed the certainty of belief from self-fulfillment of freedom in his dissertation. Because the reflexive reassurance alone remains inadequate for freedom - it is always ahead of all its determinations and therefore withdrawn - Tomberg turns to its own practice and, using the example of religious instruction, outlines a regional action theory of the Christian faith as the practice of freedom. This proves to be critically compatible with current discourses on religious education, especially about the denomination of religious education, the competence orientation of school learning and the heterogeneity of learning groups. As the publisher of several regional editions of the educational book "Shaping Life" (Klett-Verlag), Tomberg develops practical components of a competence-oriented religious education that is interested in freedom and advocates it. In addition, Tomberg is working on a didactic of Christology and on questions of the religious-pedagogical reception of children's and youth literature.
