Islamic Community of Lucerne
The Islamic Community of Lucerne (IGL) represents the public and social interests of around 13,000 Sunnis in the Muslim community in the canton of Lucerne and acts as the umbrella organization for all Sunni-Islamic organizations in the canton of Lucerne.

The IGL represents the social interests of the Muslim community in the canton of Lucerne. It is organized democratically and individually represents Muslims and enables them to sell their needs and concerns. The IGL wants to promote the integration of Muslims into Swiss society. She tries to preserve the religious and moral values of Lucerne's Muslims. He would also like to reduce misunderstandings and social tensions and promote peaceful coexistence between the different cultures and communities in the canton of Lucerne. history
In 1976 the Muslims in Lucerne organized themselves for the first time in the Eyüb Mosque in Reussbühl . Muslims of various linguistic and national origins were represented in this first mosque. In the 1990s, with an increasing number of Muslims in Lucerne, Muslims founded new mosques, separated by cultural background. So in 1991 the Dzemat of the Islamic Community of Lucerne for the Bosnian-speaking Muslims, in 1993 the Dar as-Salam Mosque for the Arabic-speaking Muslims and in 1994 the Islamic-Albanian Mosque. At the beginning of January 2002, the Association of Islamic Organizations of the Canton of Lucerne (VIOKL) was founded in Lucerne with the aim of facilitating better cooperation between the various organizations. The IGL was founded in March 2005 with the aim of better networking among Muslims themselves, coordinated public relations work and the state recognition of the religious community by the canton. In the following years the VIOKL was integrated into the IGL. After a request from May 2003 and a long process, the Muslims of the city of Lucerne and eight agglomeration communities have been buried in the Friedental cemetery on a separate parcel according to the Muslim rite since 2008.
