Georg Schläger

Georg Schläger (born June 27, 1870 in Weida , † March 21, 1921 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German teacher, Romance scholar and folk song researcher.

Life

Schläger received his doctorate in Romance languages from the University of Jena and has published on older French literature. He was a teacher and school director in Eschwege , but had to give up his job because of a hearing impairment. From then on he devoted himself entirely to folk song research. His main work in this area is the scientific appendix to Johann Lewalter's German Children's Song and Children's Game (1911). From 1917, in the last years of his life, he was archivist at the German Folk Song Archive in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Georg Schläger married Martha born on May 31, 1898. Pohle, with whom he had a son.
