Wilhelm Cloetta

Wilhelm Arnold Cloetta (born November 16, 1857 in Trieste , † September 24, 1911 in Strasbourg ) was a Swiss Romanist .

life and work

Like his cousin, the pharmacologist Max Cloetta , Cloetta came from an old line of Bergün (Graubünden). Cloetta first studied in Zurich, where he had also attended high school. a. in Paris with Gaston Paris and Arsène Darmesteter . He was in Göttingen at Karl Vollmöller with a work on drafting time and tradition of moral Poème (Erlangen 1884) PhD . From 1893 to 1909 he was (as successor to Eduard Schwan ) full professor of Romance philology in Jena , from 1909 to 1911 (as successor to Gustav Gröber ) full professor in Strasbourg .
