Islamic Art (Religion)

As a term for a decidedly religious art, the term Islamic art is almost only used in religious studies contexts. This is done in a much narrower sense than in art history only

the religious architecture ( mosques and religious monuments such as the Dome of the Rock ) and

certain parts of the book art ( calligraphy and purely ornamental illumination ) of religious writings

considered as such.
