The Organization of the Islamic World for Education, Science and Culture (ICESCO) is an international organization that emerged from the Organization for Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) and specializes in the areas of education, science, culture and communication in Islamic countries. It aims to support and strengthen relations between Member States.

ICESCO's headquarters are in Rabat . Its general director is Salim M. AlMalik.

history

The supreme resolution of the Third Islamic Summit Conference ( Makkah Al-Mukarramah, January 25-28, 1981) confirmed the establishment of a new international Islamic body to enrich the other organs of joint Islamic action that work within the framework of the OCI Name "Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture".

Meeting of the Executive Council of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO), which took place on January 29th and 30th, 2020 in Abu Dhabi, state of the United Arab Emirates, the change of the name of the organization from the "Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture "introduced in: Organization of the Islamic World for Education, Science and Culture (ICESCO). In this context, Salim M. Al-Malik, Director General of ICESCO stated that the name change aims to clarify ambiguities about the nature of their non-proclamation functions and to open up broader horizons for their presence at the international level. He indicated that the new name will better reflect the civilizational mission of the organization in the fields of education, science, culture and communication, as well as the goals to which it is striving.

a) Strengthening, deepening and promoting cooperation between the Member States in the fields of education, science, culture and communication, as well as promoting and developing these areas within the framework of the civilizational framework of the Islamic world and in consideration of Islamic human values ​​and ideals.

b) Strengthening understanding between peoples within and outside the Member States and participating in the establishment of peace and security in the world by all possible means, in particular through education, science, culture and communication.

c) To spread the authentic image of Islam and Islamic culture, to promote dialogue between civilizations, cultures and religions and to spread the culture of justice and peace and the principles of freedom and human rights as perceived in Islamic civilization will ensure.

d) promoting cultural interaction and consolidating aspects of cultural diversity in the Member States while working to preserve cultural identity and intellectual independence.

e) Strengthening the complementarity and coordination between the institutions of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation specializing in the fields of education, science, culture and communication, as well as between the member states of ISESCO and strengthening the cooperation and partnership with similar governmental and non-governmental institutions of common Interests operating inside and outside the member states.

f) Paying attention to Islamic culture, highlighting its specificities and promoting its components through academic studies, scientific research and educational programs.

g) Promoting complementarity and links between education systems in the Member States.

h) Supporting the efforts of educational, scientific and cultural institutions of Muslims residing in non-ISESCO member states.

The ICESCO charter stipulates that each member state of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OCI) will, after formally ratifying this charter, become a member of ICESCO, complete the legal and legislative procedures related to the decision to join, and inform the General Management of ICESCO in writing has informed. A state that is not a member of the OCI or has observer status in the OCI cannot be a member of ICESCO.

52 of the 57 OCI member states are currently affiliated to ICESCO. They are listed in Arabic alphabetical order with their accession dates.
