The Islamic Bloc ( Arabic الكتلة الإسلامية), formally the Alliance for Egypt , was an alliance of Islamist political parties in Egypt , which was founded in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Egypt 2011/2012 .

It consisted of two Salafist parties - the Party of Light and the Authenticity Party - as well as the Construction and Development Party , which is the political wing of the Islamic Community ( Gamaa Islamija ). The establishment of the alliance was publicly announced on November 3, 2011.

Election results

In the parliamentary elections in Egypt 2011/2012 , the Islamic Bloc won 7,534,266 out of a total of 27,065,135 valid votes, or just under 27.8% of the total votes. The alliance received 96 seats out of a total of 332 in the Egyptian parliament . The 96 seats were divided between members of the alliance as follows:

In addition, independent candidates for the Party of Light won 28 seats out of a total of 168 majority-elected seats. In addition, three members of the Development and Development Party were elected as independent candidates.

Thus, the Islamist bloc won a total of 127 seats out of a total of 498 (25.5%) in the Egyptian parliament in 2012, making it the second largest political force in parliament after the Democratic Alliance for Egypt , which was led by the Islamist Freedom and Justice Party .
