Island in the Sun (Harry Belafonte Song)

Island in the Sun is a song written in 1957 by Lord Burgess and Harry Belafonte . It served as the score for the film of the same name from 1957 with James Mason and Harry Belafonte. Cover versions of the English version were recorded by The Paragons , among others .

The song describes the beauty of a tropical island and is considered the unofficial anthem of the West Indies .

Caterina Valente landed a number one hit with the German version of the song with the lyrics by Kurt Feltz under the title Where my sun shines . The German version was covered by Freddy Quinn .
