The Islas del Cisne (also Santanillas , English Swan Islands , German " Swan Islands " ) are a group of islands in the Caribbean belonging to Honduras . They are 156 km north of Honduras and consist of three islands:
- Cisne Grande (Great Swan) , 2.57 km²
- Cisne Pequeño (Little Swan) , 1.11 km²
- El Cayo Pájaro Bobo (Booby Cay) , 0.01 km²
The land area is about eight km². Cisne Grande extends over a length of three kilometers, Cisne Pequeño is approximately 2.4 km long and 500 m wide. El Cayo Pájaro Bobo is only 90 meters long.
The islands discovered by Christopher Columbus were annexed by the USA in the 19th century with reference to the Guano Islands Act and returned to Honduras in 1971 ( conflict over the Swan Islands ). The islands are administratively counted to the Department Islas de la Bahía and therein to the municipality of Roatán .
