The Isola dei Laghi is an island in the Venice Lagoon with an area of 8.5 hectares. It is located north of Mazzorbetto , an island from which it is separated by the Canale del Taglio , or southwest of Torcello , from which they are separated by the Canale di Burano. The island has only emerged from a barena , the Palude dei Laghi, in the last few decades .
It was only created in the course of cleaning the urban canals ( Rii ), which resulted in large amounts of sludge, which is mostly heavily polluted. Except for the strip on the Canale del Taglio, the island is in communal ownership. On the initiative of the Associazione Culturale Veneziana in 1990, a nature and cultural park was created here, which is intended to maintain the typical mixture of garden and lagoon management.
