Isosthenuria (from Greek ίσος “equal” and σθένος “strength”, German also urinary rigidity ) denotes (since Franz Volhard ) in nephrology the loss of any ability to concentrate or dilute the kidneys in the context of chronic kidney failure and thus a rigid urine concentration . As a result, the original filtrate remains unchanged with a fixed density of 1.010 g / ml. This value corresponds to that of protein-free plasma . This value remains the same regardless of the amount of liquid supplied from the outside.

Irrespective of renal insufficiency, isosthenuria can also occur in the context of sickle cell anemia .
