Israel Astronomical Society

The Israeli Astronomical Association (IAA) is a registered non-profit organization. The aim is to promote astronomy in Israel .

The activities include:

  • Publication of Astronomia magazine , the only astronomical magazine in Hebrew .
  • Publication of an almanac .
  • Public observations and observation excursions (“Star Parties”) in areas with dark night skies. These take place on a weekend around the new moon time, mostly in the Negev desert . Participation in star parties (as in all other events) is also open to astronomy-interested visitors from abroad who are expressly welcome.
  • Meetings and seminars.
  • Organization of astronomical weekends specially tailored for families. The weekends take place in the country and consist of lectures, astronomical observations and walks.
  • Public lectures, observations and special events at the Givatayim observatory .
  • Public relations, e.g. B. Information to the media, especially about current astronomical events .
  • Perception of the role as contact person and discussion platform between Israeli and foreign amateur astronomers.
  • Amateur research projects (e.g., NEOs , variable stars , extrasolar planets ).

Work in the IAA is free of charge. The center of activities is the Givatayim observatory.
