Istituto di Scienze Militari Aeronautiche
The Istituto di Scienze Militari Aeronautiche (ISMA) ( German "Institute for Military Aviation Sciences" ) is a military training and research facility of the Italian Air Force . It was founded in 1937 and is based in Florence .
Graduates of the Accademia Aeronautica ( Bachelors ) complete their officer training at ISMA with a master's degree in “Military Aviation Sciences”, which was established in 2005 in cooperation with the University of Florence .
Later, officers at ISMA can complete numerous advanced training courses, including the staff officer course and the first part of general staff training , which is then completed at the Armed Forces Leadership Academy ( CASD ).
The ISMA also sees itself as a center for research, the exchange of ideas and experiences, which as such makes a concrete contribution to optimizing operational processes and organizational structures. In this context, the General Staff of the Italian Air Force ( Stato Maggiore Aeronautica - SMA ) regularly requests studies and reports from ISMA. In addition, the ISMA organizes congresses, seminars and symposia.
Until 2006, the ISMA was called Scuola di Guerra Aerea ("Air War School"). The Italian Army (ISME, Turin ) and the Italian Navy (ISMM, Venice, Arsenal ) maintain comparable facilities .
