The Accademia Aeronautica ( German  Air Force Academy ) is a military facility located in Pozzuoli near Naples , where candidate officers for the Italian Air Force are trained.

Training directions

Prospective pilots complete a college education focused on military aviation. In addition, basic aviation training takes place in Latina . If this is successfully completed, the jet training follows in Lecce or at flight schools in the United States or Canada . Helicopter pilots are trained in Frosinone , transport pilots in Pratica di Mare near Rome or in Pisa .

Selected individual graduates and members of the Genio Aeronautico (air force engineers ) then study aerospace engineering , civil engineering or electrical engineering at the University of Naples . Members of the Corpo di Commissariato Aeronautico (administrative area of the Air Force) do at the University a Masters in Law , for aspiring doctors of medicine , the training lasts six years. Officer candidates in these fields of study are usually trained for two years at the Air Force Academy and then promoted to lieutenant , after which they complete three or four more years of study at the University of Naples. All other officers complete their training at the Istituto di Scienze Militari Aeronautiche in Florence , which in 2005 set up the master's degree in “Military Aviation Sciences” in collaboration with the University of Florence .

Officer candidates who have already obtained a university degree (Masters or more) in engineering, chemistry , physics , mathematics , law , economics, or medicine will only receive shorter military-specific training before starting their normal service. This also applies to temporary flight personnel.

history

After the Italian Air Force was set up as an independent military force in 1923 , the Air Force Academy was established under the umbrella of the Naval Academy in Livorno until 1926 . In December 1926, parts of the Royal Castle of Caserta were moved into . The Regia Aeronautica trained its officers here until 1943. From August 10 to September 10, 1943, the academy was housed at the Collegio Aeronautico in Forli , then operations were temporarily shut down. Under the Badoglio government , the Aeronautica Cobelligerante Italiana was able to resume officer training at the Collegio Navale in Brindisi . The Naval Academy was also housed there.

From November 1945 to December 1961, the Air Force Academy was located on the island of Nisida in the Gulf of Naples . With the construction of its own, purpose-specific training facilities on a promontory in the Bay of Pozzuoli , the Italian Air Force was able to definitely end the period of makeshift arrangements. Nisida and the other islands in the Gulf of Naples are within sight of the campus-like facilities of the Pozzuoli Air Force Academy.
