The Turkish Air Force Academy ( Turkish Hava Harp Okulu ) is a training center for the Turkish Air Force . It was founded in Istanbul in 1951 and serves the academic and practical training of prospective officers . Initially planned for two years, since 1974 the students have been accompanied in four years up to an engineering bachelor's degree . Postgraduate and doctoral studies are offered. The institution is accredited as a university by the Turkish University Council .

Major General Fethi Alpay has been Commander of the Air Force Academy since 2014 . According to Turkish media reports, he was taken into custody after the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016 .
