The Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi (YTÜ) ( German : Technical University Yıldız ) is a technically oriented university in Istanbul . The YTÜ was founded on August 28, 1911 during the reign of Mehmed V as "Kondüktör Mekteb-i Alisi" (roughly: "College for Executives") to train specialists for the Vilâyet administrations.
In connection with the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016 , Turkish authorities ordered the arrest of at least 103 YTÜ academics on November 18, 2016. The state news agency Anadolu Ajansı reported on the same day that 73 arrest warrants could be executed. One of the reasons for the arrests was cited as being linked to the US spiritual leader, Fethullah Gülen .
