István Szőnyi

István Szőnyi (born January 17, 1894 in Újpest as István Schmidt, † August 30, 1960 in Zebegény , Hungary ) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist. He was a member of the Nagybánya group. One of his masters was Károly Ferenczy in the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest . His students were e.g. B. Vilmos Aba-Novák and Endre Szász . He and his family saved Jews during the Holocaust . Therefore, on October 2, 1984, they were declared Righteous Among the Nations .
