István Szilágyi (born October 10, 1938 in Cluj , Romania ) is a Romanian writer .

Life

Szilágyi was born the son of a tanner . The family belongs to the Hungarian minority in Romania . He attended middle school in Cluj (Hungarian: Kolozsvár) and then worked as a boilermaker and machine fitter . After studying law from 1958 to 1963 , he worked in the Hungarian language literary magazine UTUNK . In 1968 he took over the position of deputy editor-in-chief there. He published his first literary works in 1960.

Honors

In 1975 his novel Stones Falling into Drying Wells was awarded the Romanian Writers' Union Prize.
