history
When composing the song, Billy Joel based himself on his previous song The Entertainer from 1975. According to drummer Liberty DeVitto , the sound engineer even turned the drum quietly during the recording in order to bring out the guitar solo.
The rock and new wave song was released on May 12, 1980 and became a number one hit in the United States and Canada. The Recording Industry Association of America awarded the hit a platinum record .
That same year, Weird Al Yankovic recorded a parody called It's Still Billy Joel to Me , which was broadcast on Dr. Demento 1980 also became known. It did not appear as a single or on an album. Yankovic said in an interview: I wrote that in 1980, but even by 1983 (when my first album came out) it felt a bit dated. Also, we figured that Billy wasn't very likely to give us his blessing on that one anyway, so we never even bothered asking. "(German: I wrote it in 1980, but even for my 1983 debut album it felt very out of date Besides, I thought Billy wouldn't agree. We didn't ask him either.)

In the music video, Billy Joel performs the song with studio musicians on a stage. According to the studio musicians, Joel actually sang the song live on stage.
