Itamar (2008)

Itamar ( Hebrew איתמר) is a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967, with 1,032 inhabitants (2009). In 1994 Itamar had 273 residents. The settlement was founded in 1984 and is located southeast of Nablus . The place was named after the biblical Itamar , Aaron's youngest son. There are a number of outposts - even illegal under Israeli law - on the hills east of Itamar. The place and the surrounding area are known for frequent acts of violence by both Israeli and Palestinian sides. In 2011 , members of the Fogel settler family were murdered .

The UN office, which takes care of the coordination of humanitarian affairs (UNOCHA), human rights organizations and the media reported on an above-average number of violent attacks by Itamar settlers against Palestinians. B'Tselem criticized that "Israeli authorities failed to indict violent settlers" The Haaretz reported that the Israeli army was preventing Palestinians from cultivating their own land near Itamar. Itamar settlers have repeatedly attacked Palestinians, damaging their property, preventing them from harvesting olives and stealing olives.

The small village of Yanun, flanked by two outposts of the Itamar settlement, had to be abandoned by its residents after they were repeatedly attacked from the outposts without intervention by the Israeli army. The villagers left their homeland in 2002 and moved to the nearby village of Aqraba.
