The Itelmen language belongs to the Chukchi-Kamchadal languages and is spoken in Russia in the Koryak Autonomous Okrug .

The language is the only language that belongs to the Kamchadal branch of the language family. Nowadays it is strongly threatened, as most of the 3000 Itelmens grow up with Russian as their mother tongue and the existing speakers of Itelmen are mostly of old age.

An Itelmenian alphabet based on the Cyrillic alphabet has existed since 1986 .
