Iuncus Vergilianus
Iuncus Vergilianus († autumn 48 AD) was a Roman senator of the early imperial period .
The Roman historian Tacitus mentions Iuncus Vergilianus in connection with the trial of the Empress Valeria Messalina . She had committed adultery with the young senator Gaius Silius and even married him in 48 AD. When her husband, Emperor Claudius , was informed of this by the freedman Narcissus and, under his influence, proceeded to punish Messalina and Silius, several accomplices, such as Iuncus Vergilianus, were also executed. The Roman philosopher and statesman Seneca portrays Iuncus Vergilianus as a victim of Narcissus.
