Ivo Ferriani (born March 5, 1960 ) is a former Italian bobsleigh driver and current sports official.

General

Ivo Ferriani studied sports science at the Foro Italico University in Rome . He completed his studies with a Bachelor of Science .

Career as an athlete

Ferriani turned to bobsleigh and in 1986 became European junior champion in two-man bobsleigh. In the four-man bobsleigh he was fourth at the 1987 European Championships in Cervinia . In 1988 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Calgary . He entered the two-man bobsleigh competition with his partner Stefano Ticci . Ferriani and Ticci took 19th place.

Sports administration

After finishing his active career in 1990, Ivo Ferriani became the coach of the Italian bobsleigh team. In 1994 he became the coach of the French bobsleigh team. Under his direction, the French four-man bobsleigh won the world championship in 1999, the two-man bobsleigh became world champions in 1995 and 1999. There was also a bronze medal in the French four-man bobsleigh at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano . In 1999 Ferriani became the coach of the Canadian bobsleigh team. The biggest success here was a fifth place in the two-man bobsleigh at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . After the games he returned to Italy and became technical director for bobsleigh at the Italian winter sports association Federazione Italiana Sport Invernali . He held this office until 2009. During the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he was the head of the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competition.

In 2010 Ivo Ferriani took over the presidency of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation . He is a member of the Italian NOK.

IOC membership

In 2016 Ivo Ferriani was elected an IOC member. He is a member of the Commission for Sustainability and Legacy and the Commission for the Coordination of the 24th Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022.
