Iwaki (clan)

The Iwaki ( Japanese 岩 城 氏 , Iwaki-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ), which was derived from the Taira . With an income of 20,000 Koku , the Iwaki , who last lived in Kameda ( Akita Prefecture ), were among the smaller Tozama daimyo of the Edo period .

genealogy

  • Tsunetaka ( 常 隆 ; 1566–1590) inherited the domain Iwakitaira ( Mutsu ), which his ancestors held for several centuries. After he was defeated by Date Masamune in 1585 and by Satake Yoshishige in 1587 , he joined Toyotomi Hideyoshi .
  • Sadataka ( 貞 隆 ; 1584–1621), a son of Satake Yoshishige, was adopted by Tsunetaka and succeeded him. Since he had joined the opponents of Tokugawa Ieyasu , together with his brother Satake Yoshinobu and Uesugi Kagekatsu, he lost Iwakidaira with 180,000 koku and was transferred to Kameda ( Dewa ) in 1602 . There he and his descendants resided in a permanent house ( jinya ) with 20,000 koku until 1868. Then vice count .
