Iwan Iwanowitsch ( Russian Иван Иванович ) is the name for the human-like dummies used in two unmanned test flights of the Vostok spacecraft in March 1961 . On both flights Ivan Ivanovich was accompanied by dogs, on Korabl-Sputnik 4 on March 6 by Chernushka ( Чернушка ) and Korabl-Sputnik 5 on March 25 by Svyosdotschka ( Звёздочка ). On both flights, the procedure and technology for Gagarin's first manned flight with Vostok 1 were tested, so Ivan Ivanovich wore a spacesuit and at the end of the mission - like Gagarin later - was catapulted out of the capsule using an ejector seat and landed on a parachute .

The Korabl-Sputnik 5 dummy was bought by Ross Perot in 1993 for USD 189,500 and has been on loan at the National Air and Space Museum since 1997 .
