history

From 1919 to 1930 the barracks was occupied by the French and was given the name: "Quartier de l´Yser". At times the 6 e régiment de cuirassiers was there . On February 18, 1933, the " Sender Trier " was opened in the chamber and vehicle building. The city was thus connected to the German radio network. Two wooden masts of 60 m each were required for operation, which were replaced a year later by a 106 m high wooden mast. The transmitter was dismantled on September 30, 1936 and taken to Koblenz.

After the Wehrmacht took over the barracks, the name was changed to "Neue Goeben-Kaserne". The 1st Battalion of Infantry Regiment 105 ("The 105er") was stationed there , and the 2nd Battalion was in the "Neue Hornkaserne", which was in the immediate vicinity. The III. Battalion of the "105" was in Wittlich. After the Second World War, the barracks were occupied again by the French on July 11, 1947 and were given the name: "Quartier Castelforte". The "1 ere Regiment Commandement et de Soutien" (1 ° RCS, Command Support Regiment) use the barracks until 23 March 1992. The regiment adopted with a large parade on the military base and was disbanded by July 1,992th The 15 hectare barracks area was converted into a conversion area . Today there is a large furniture store, a hardware store chain, a business service T-Punkt from Deutsche Telekom and other smaller businesses. A seven-part building ensemble of the barracks, consisting of two- and three-storey hipped roof buildings in the Baroque style, have been preserved (Herzogenbuscher Strasse 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, Cläre-Prem-Strasse 1, 3). These are considered a monument zone, the other buildings have been demolished. In 1999 the IHK Trier relocated its headquarters from Kornmarkt to the buildings of the former barracks, as did the Trier Volksbank.
