Jóhann Ásmundsson , (born March 30, 1961 in Iceland ) is the bass player in the instrumental funk fusion band Mezzoforte . He lives in Reykjavík with his family . With Mezzoforte, he has recorded over a dozen albums since 1977 and has toured the world. The album “Volcanic”, released in November 2010, he edited as the lead sound engineer. He currently teaches at the Jazz College of Iceland in Reykjavík.

His first solo album “So low” (pronounced like “solo” - “low” naturally alludes to his instrument) was released on August 6, 2001. Jóhann's bass game (he plays 4- to 6-string electric basses) is unique. As a session and studio musician, he has played on countless albums (especially in Iceland). In July 2016 Jóhann Ásmundsson released his second solo album “Floating”.
