Józef Szczepkowski (singer, 1849)
Józef Szczepkowski (born January 21, 1849 in Warsaw , † May 2, 1909 in Warsaw ) was a Polish opera singer (baritone).
The son of the tenor Józef Szczepkowski and brother of the mezzo-soprano Anastazja Szczepkowska completed a vocal training after attending the philological high school in Warsaw and made his debut at Teatr Wielki in 1873 as Count Luna in The Troubadour . He was engaged at this house until 1900 and appeared as Janusz in Halka and Marcin in Verbum nobile by Stanisław Moniuszko , as Renato in A Masked Ball , Germont in La Traviata and Don Carlo in Ernani by Giuseppe Verdi , as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti and as Nevers in The Huguenots by Giacomo Meyerbeer . In 1890 he took over the hero tenor role of Jontek at Teatr Wielki in Halka . From 1900 he taught at the Warsaw Conservatory .
