Jörg Kirschstein (* 1969 in Potsdam ) is a German archivist and author of non-fiction books.

Life

Kirschstein grew up not far from Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam. The proximity to the former residence of the Prussian rulers aroused his interest in the royal-imperial Hohenzollern family . From 1992 to 1996 he studied archiving at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences .

Kirschstein has been working for the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg since 1999 , he is the castellan of Babelsberg Palace in Potsdam .

In 2001 he was the curator of the exhibition on Crown Prince Wilhelm's exile in the Netherlands . In 2004 he curated the show on the 50th anniversary of the death of the last German Crown Princess Cecilie in the Marble Palace in the New Garden in Potsdam , about which he also wrote a book at the same time. Another exhibition entitled Aus Allerhöchster Schatulle - Imperial Gifts , which took place in the Potsdam Museum including the exhibition catalog under his direction, dealt with the gift policy at the court of Wilhelm II. The exhibition of Europe's last rendezvous - the wedding of Victoria Luise and Ernst August in the palace museum Braunschweig was also curated by him in 2013. In 2016, Kirschstein was the curator of the exhibition Castles for the State Guest - Schönhausen and Augustusburg. State visits in divided Germany in Schönhausen Palace . On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Kirschstein curated the exhibition "Kaiserdämmerung - The New Palace 1918 between Monarchy and Republic", which took place in 2018 in the Potsdam New Palace.

In August 2011, together with aristocratic expert Rolf Seelmann-Eggebert , he commented live on the wedding of Georg Friedrich Prince of Prussia , head of the House of Hohenzollern, and Sophie Princess von Isenburg in Sanssouci on rbb television .

Kirschstein lives in Potsdam.
